The business was started as a typical local gym for the purpose of rehabilitation, which was later turned into a 24-hour fitness centre. In the year 2008, the company was one of the sponsors of the USA Olympic Teams. The company also expanded its service to countries like China and Singapore. In the year 2014, the company was sold to AEA Investors LP for $1.85 billion.
